Britain’s popular cartoonist during the
Napoleonic era, James Gillray, here shows
Napoleon and the British Prime Minister
William Pitt carving up the world between
them, as though it were a plum pudding.
Napoleon carves himself a hefty slice of
Europe, while Pitt slices through the ocean
with an ease befitting Britain’s maritime
supremacy.
