This chair and armchair formed part of the
furnishings for the Salon of Apartment no.1
in the Court of Princes at the Imperial palace
at Fontainebleau. They appear to have
been produced around November 1804 as
part of the refurbishments carried out to
accommodate Pope Pius VII during his visit
for the coronation. Made of precious
mahogany and enhanced with refined inlays
of ebony and pewter, the chairs display the
restrained, elegant design characteristic
of the Jacob Brothers during the Consulate
period.
