Following Napoleon’s exile to St Helena, this<br />
small, isolated island in the Atlantic Ocean<br />
became the focus <strong>of</strong> world attention.<br />
A number <strong>of</strong> books on this exotic locale<br />
were rushed into publication, such as<br />
William Innes Pocock’s Five Views <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Island <strong>of</strong> St Helena, whose text and coloured<br />
engravings were prepared for sale in London<br />
in September 1815 while Napoleon was still<br />
sailing towards the island.<br />
