Throughout the Revolution and the ensuing
years of political upheaval, the Sèvres
manufactory remained in business, despite
its royal patronage and luxury products.
In order to navigate this unstable climate
the factory began producing tablewares
decorated with Revolutionary symbols.
This cup and saucer combines recognisable
Revolutionary attributes with a sumptuous
decorative scheme directly inspired by
ancien régime taste.
