Eastern Idaho is part of the greater Yellowstone ecosystem with
breathtaking natural wonders—a perfect place to call home or to
make your destination playground.
» The Idaho Falls Cultural District
along the beautiful Snake River is
distinguished by its museums,
repertory theater, glass and ceramic
workshops, and the new “art you can
sit on”—18 ingenious sculptural seats
throughout downtown. The Museum of
Idaho, the largest museum in the state,
offers nationally acclaimed traveling
exhibits and permanent displays of
area history. In addition to its permanent
displays, the museum hosts
an entire season of Old-fashioned
Christmas and Winter Festival events.
The Eagle Rock Art Museum highlights
the work of its four founding members
along with other local artists. The Collectors
Corner Museum includes dolls,
bears, antiques, trains, coins, stamps,
and military memorabilia.
» Sit back and enjoy the Teton Valley
Balloon Rally, a three-day event
wrapped around the 4th of July, which
features balloon rides, games, a parade,
rodeo action, bike races, a fiddler’s contest,
For great international flavors, stop
by Rutabaga’s in Idaho Falls, a quaint
restaurant on the river offering delightful
cultural favorites paired with
exquisite wines. For a nice change, try
Rumbi Island Grill for fresh food with a
Caribbean flavor. Wander over to Love
at First Bite for delicious cupcakes
and a nice assortment of candies and
chocolates. When in the Teton Valley,
be sure to stop at the Victor Emporium
for an old-fashioned huckleberry shake,
or if you are in the mood for something
stronger, stop in at the Teton Brewing
Company in Victor for a craft beer or
root beer.
» Have you been to a classic drive-in
theater recently? Spend a lazy summer
evening at the old-fashioned Spud
Drive-In Theatre. You can’t miss this
valley landmark, with its vintage truck
out front hauling the biggest potato
you’ve ever seen. Films play after dark
all summer long.
» Another classic in eastern Idaho
that is a must for the kids is the Idaho
Centennial Carousel at Porter Park in
Rexburg. Idaho’s only wooden carousel
is one of only about 170 still in existence
in the United States. Watch your
children delight to the authentic organ
music that swirls around the horses
and chariots. This stunning piece of
nostalgia was renovated in 1990 for
Idaho’s Centennial.
