Ernest Hemingway loved fishing at Silver Creek, but had he cast a dry
fly in eastern Idaho, he may have spent even more time on the river.
» Here at the base of the Continental
Divide, icy water feeds the most
acclaimed trout fishing streams in the
west, the popular South Fork of the
Snake, the Teton River, and the outstanding
Henrys Fork of the Snake River
at Island Park. Snowmelt is augmented
by water from Big Springs, where 120
million gallons per day bubble up into
the river. Anglers can nab a variety
of trout species in these rivers, while
observing other wildlife such as osprey
and bald eagles.
» If that’s not enough wildlife for you,
get into the backcountry and take a
naturalist with you. Outfitters are available
with guides who know the flora,
fauna, and history of the area. Stop in
at the Forest Service ranger station or
the Chamber of Commerce for more
information.

Grand Targhee Resort serves up all
sorts of winter fun just over the border
in Wyoming, while Kelly Canyon is a
small ski area just east of Ririe.

holes, you’ll find the best eastern Idaho
has to offer at Teton Springs. True to its
name with rolling fairways amid springfed
lakes, it is a fair test for any golfer.
When your round is completed, the
staff at Stillwaters Spa can soothe your
tired muscles.
» Take to the sands of St. Anthony
Dunes for some off-road excitement
on 60 miles of windswept sand. If twowheeling
is more your style, head for
Swan Valley. You’ll find great views of
the South Fork of the Snake River on
mountain bike trails, where wildlife can
be seen in the area.
Snake River Canyon
» Near Ririe is Heise Hot Springs, a
natural mineral hot springs facility with
warm and cool pools, a water slide, golf
course, and campgrounds. Heise Zip
is the newest attraction at the resort,
with 7 zip lines waiting to carry you on
an impressive mile-long aerial tour over
the Snake River.
