All the routes into southeastern
Idaho will lead you through expansive
landscapes that will remind you of the
Old West. In this part of Idaho lies its
oldest town, Franklin, founded by
Mormon pioneers in 1860. In southeastern
Idaho, you’ll find working guest ranches,
the Shoshone-Bannock Indian reservation,
hot springs, and even the getaway route
of Butch Cassidy. Here, “The West” really
does live on. You can follow the history
and tradition of the region’s Indian tribes
at the Sho-Ban Tribal Museum. Throughout
this area of Idaho, you can walk along an
emigrant trail and experience frontier life
in several other interpretive museums and
displays. Touch the rocks where pioneers
and Indians once collided. Watch thrilling
rodeo action, immerse yourself in one of
the West’s best hot springs, or experience
the vivid art and culture scene at Idaho
State University in Pocatello. Throughout
the region, you’ll be close to great hunting,
fishing, and camping. When the snow flies,
the hills are softly blanketed in powder,
perfect for snowmobiling or downhill
skiing at Pebble Creek, just a stone’s
throw from Pocatello. With a visit to
southeastern Idaho, you’ll gain a sense
of adventure in a land that harkens back
to its western heritage.
