Shoshone Falls
Twin Falls
The heart of south central Idaho is the mighty Snake River; harnessing all that water power in 1905
changed the face of the region. Water transformed the dry southern Idaho desert into productive
agricultural land and the resulting reservoirs into recreation havens.
» Each summer, the best boat racers
in the world and their fans converge
on the Snake River for three days of
crowd-pleasing speed at the Idaho
Regatta, held in Burley each year in late
June. There is whitewater rafting and
river cruises further west on the river
and, of course, fishing for bass, catfish,
perch, and trout.
» Rock climbers can choose from
hundreds of routes in Castle Rocks
State Park and City of Rocks National
Monument for superb technical climbing.
Camping, hiking, mountain biking,
and horseback riding are also popular
activities in the midst of this dramatic
backdrop along the California Trail.
There are also rock walls at Dierkes
Lake in Twin Falls—enhance your skills
while the rest of the family swims the
lake or just relaxes under shady trees.

» The expansive farmland does give
way to mountain getaways. Near Twin
Falls, a place the locals call the “South
Hills” is something of an exclusive
playground for all seasons. Summer
finds hikers and horses sharing many
of the trails that wind through the hills
and valleys, while in winter, the whir of
snowmobiles can be heard in the crisp
mountain air.
» Two resorts—Magic Mountain near
Twin Falls and Pomerelle Mountain
Resort near Albion—are both familyfriendly
ski areas suitable for beginners
of all ages. When the snow melts,
Pomerelle’s summer operation includes
chairlift rides, mountain biking, hiking,
horseshoes, and disc golf.
» True adventurists will want to try
the most exhilarating sport in the
area—BASE jumping off Perrine Bridge.

The landmark bridge stretches 1,500
feet across the Snake River Canyon
north of Twin Falls a stunning 500 feet.
