Rhizomes long-creeping, frequently branching, filiform, to 0.5 mm diam., densely covered<br />
with dark hairs, protostele collateral to regressed (see Ebihara et al., submitted),<br />
cortex petiole-like, roots absent, root-like shoots present. Stipes often quite reduced,<br />
to 1 cm, at a distance from the adjacent ones. Blades usually simple, or sometimes<br />
lobed to pinnatifid, elliptic to narrowly ovate, 3 by 2 cm, venation catadromous, continuous<br />
submarginal false veinlets present, longitudinal false veinlets parallel to the<br />
true veins present, internal cell walls thin and straight, margins entire and glabrous.<br />
Sori epitactic or pantotactic, often immersed in the laminae, tubular, lips often dilate,<br />
receptacles exserted.<br />
Distribution — Throughout the tropics, mainly in the Old World; more than 10 species.<br />
Habitat — Epilithic or low-epiphytic.<br />
