TRIO SETS SAIL AUGUST 10TH!!!
On a very rare occasion, a business comes into
a community and helps to redefine it and make
it better. Trio Restaurant is such a business. It
is hard to remember a time when Trio was not
one of the desert’s favorite “watering holes” and
gathering spots for tourist and locals alike! Trio
has become more than just a quality restaurant…
it is a true charitable community icon here in
Palm Springs. So when Trio announced they
were co-hosting a River Cruise, I knew it had to
be special…and it is!! Trio has teamed up with
HEARTY Restaurant of Chicago and A-ROSA
European River Cruises for a fantastic 2013
Culinary Cruise! This is going to be a very special
and “tasty” adventure!!
Date: August 10-17, 2013
Destination: sailing round-trip from Lyon on the
Rhône and Saône Rivers in the Southern French
regions of Provence and Burgundy.
Ship: Our ship will be the A-ROSA Stella, built
in 2005. With a passenger compliment of only
174, the ship has two levels of French Balcony
staterooms and one level with windows.
Description: “Taste your way through the South
of France with TRIO Restaurant of Palm Springs
Ports of Call:
LYON: The old town “Vieux Lyon” features
Renaissance houses making it worthy of
being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lyon is
dubbed “la ville de gueule” – the gourmet town.
Furthermore it is known for its high-quality silk
products and the Basilica of Notre-Dame die
Fourvière above the city. Our guests are invited
to a complimentary gourmet lunch at the eatery
of famed Chef, Paul Bocuse!
MÂCON: Mâcon, on the River Saône, has a
distinctly old-world and Mediterranean feel. Home
to France’s greatest writers it is most famous for
its Burgundy wines. Sights include the Maison
de Bois, a house covered in elaborate wooden
carvings. All around you can enjoy the beautiful,
rolling countryside of the Mâconnais.
Onboard Experience:
There are many ships cruising the rivers of
Europe, but none are as vibrant and lively as
A-ROSA! The ships have a contemporary
boutique feel with modern décor, young and
handsome staff and cuisine so delectable that
many have called it “the best in the cruise
industry!”
Designed for the North American traveler,
A-ROSA was first to offer a truly “all-inclusive”
experience. Once onboard you can put your
wallet away! Your fare includes:
- Comfortable, chic accommodations
- Open Bar (spirits, wine, beer, etc…all day and
in all venues) ***this is a major point for all P.R.
(especially for gay groups and corporate group
cruises) as the bar bill one receives at the end of
a cruise can often exceed the cruise fare itself!!!
- No tipping! Gratuities have been prepaid for you
- Shore excursions (a great selection of tours
featuring local towns, food and culture)
- All port fees & taxes (these can often be an
unpleasant surprise!)
- Optional Air and Transfers (AROSA can
handle this for you, making your trip hassle-free)
- Award winning nouvelle and regional cuisine.
Buffet breakfast and lunches and waiter served
dinners. Many have said (including a Conde
Nast writer) that A-Rosa’s cuisine may be the
best in the whole cruise industry!
- Festive outdoor sundeck, spanning the
length of the ship, with pool and bar
and HEARTY Restaurant of Chicago! Join us on
this exciting culinary voyage through the world’s
most famous wine and food regions of Burgundy
and Provence. Sample wines, cheeses and other
delicacies as we glide down the Rhône River from
Lyon to the Mediterranean and back, covering
almost 300 miles of fascinating countryside. On
board, enjoy the pleasures of one of the most
modern ships sailing the European waterways,
the A-ROSA Stella, which is more of a “boutique
hotel” than a boat! Celebrity hosts, Dan Smith
and Steve McDonagh, better known as The Hearty
Boys are accomplished restaurateurs, hosts of
Food Network’s The Party Line with the Hearty
Boys, authors of two best sellers (Talk With Your
Mouth Full and The New Old Bar) and have fed
notables from Oprah Winfrey to Hillary Clinton.
They’ll entertain and educate our guests with food
and cocktail demonstrations and will be available
throughout the cruise to answer your personal
questions about cooking, mixology and the fine art
of throwing the perfect party! Also onboard will be
co-hosts Mark Van Laanen and Tony Marchese,
owners of Palm Springs’ most popular eatery,
TRIO. Tony and Mark are well known for their
über-popular restaurants in Wisconsin, Chicago
and California and are heralded in the restaurant
industry as marketing “guru’s”. They’ll be honored
to share their business advice with you, but most
LA VOULTE: Located on the Rhône at the foot of
rocky hills, this picturesque stone village features
an ancient castle and is famous for its fields of
lavender.
VIVIERS: Viviers is an open-air museum:
discover its history and heritage, strolling down
its narrow medieval streets. You will be stunned
by the Renaissance façade of the “Maison des
Chevaliers” (House of Knights) and you will marvel
at its cathedral, a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and
XVIII th century architecture.
ARLES: Arles is a favorite tourist destination
in Provence, made famous in recent times by
painters Van Gogh and Gaugin, but has been a
- Spa with modern treatment rooms and a
sauna “with a view!”
- Totally casual. No formal dress code, though
displaying your European fashion sense in the
evening can always be fun!
River cruising is a perfect way to experience
Europe! Get onboard, unpack once and you’re
hotel goes with you! And, when you add up
everything that is included in the fare, river
cruising is actually a great deal too!
A-ROSA’s typical guest is younger, seeking an
active experience with adventurous excursions
and a vibrant nightlife. Prepare to party onboard
A-Rosa….the bartenders prefer to call themselves
“mixologists”.
BONUS:
Guests booking the cruise through TRIO or
HEARTY will receive…
- $300 dining certificate to either TRIO or
HEARTY restaurants (per couple. Single guests
receive a $150 certificate)
- An exclusive 7-course wine pairing dinner
onboard the ship
- Lunch at famed Paul Bocuse’s restaurant in
Lyon
- 5% Early Booking Discount (book by June 11, 2013)
- For a limited time, Single guests may book
a window stateroom without the normal singlesupplement
fee. Balcony supplements are only 20%.
Summertime in Provence and Burgundy yields
not just a bounty of wine grapes, produce
and cheeses, but also the famed “herbs de
Provence”. Here an ancient hilltop village basks
in the purple glow of blossoming lavender fields.
importantly…where they go, a good time is
sure to follow! Amazingly, one price covers
everything onboard this cruise, including a nonstop
open bar, gourmet meals, gratuities (that’s
right…no tipping!) and even your shore tours! Of
course, a visit to Paris before or after your cruise
would make this vacation absolutely perfect!”
center since Roman times, as evidenced by the
town’s ancient amphitheater. The area around
Arles is famous for its natural beauty, especially
in coastal nature preserve of the Camargue
known for its flamingoes and wild horses.
AVIGNON: This historic Roman walled city is
known as the capital of the famous Cote du
Rhone wine region. Visit the 14th century Palace
of the Popes and the 12th century Avignon
Bridge, both are UNESCO world heritage sites.
CHATEAUNEUF DE PAPE: One of the most
famous wine regions in the world, Châteauneufdu-Pape
has no rival when it comes to producing
world class red wines. A visit here is full of toprated
wines and majestic and never-ending
rolling hills of vineyards.
