Chapter 9: Nautical Knots
To use the uni to tie on a leader, make a loop in the running line overlapping the leader,
and a second in the leader overlapping the running line, and then tie the knots. Draw
them down, clip off the tag ends close, and you’re done.
Microfiber lines, which have become very popular with anglers in recent years, are so thin
that they tend to cut through monofilament leaders. You can avoid this by doubling the
microfiber before tying the double uni-knot to make the attachment.
The Least You Need to Know
◆ Nylon is the most commonly used material for anchor and dock lines.
◆ Line diameters must be matched to load, determined mostly by boat length.
◆ Don’t ignore basic line care to keep your lines in good condition and ready when
needed.
◆ Learn a few knots well, so that you can tie them in a hurry under stress.
