In the pages that follow, we’ll review some of the ways that the skipper can
help all aboard stay safe, happy, and healthy. Your boat is much like your
home, both in that you want your guests to enjoy themselves, and that you
want them to follow some basic rules so that everyone else can stay happy as
well.
As any business leader these days knows, you don’t just manage a business,
you manage people. It’s like that aboard nearly every boat, too—except maybe
a one-person kayak (and even there you may have to manage yourself at times,
especially when the boat is upside-down and the water is fast and icy and stark
terror seems the normal response rather than thinking about the mechanics of
the Eskimo roll).
