The procedure which we are going to illustrate will enable the shoulder thickness to be calculated.
As a reference, we will use the value “Z” on the gearbox housing (see Fig. 9) compared with the
theoretic value (77 mm) for the distance between the pinion head and the differential centre line (0,
see Fig. 10).
To measure the necessary values, a checking plane capable of bearing the weight of the gearbox
housing and a measuring instrument equipped with a dial gauge, with a range of at least 500 mm
are needed.
