Household goods (HHG)<br />

All personal property associated with the home <strong>and</strong> all PE belonging to a member <strong>and</strong> the member’s dependents that<br />

can be legally accepted <strong>and</strong> transported by an authorized commercial carrier in accordance with the rules <strong>and</strong><br />

regulations established or approved by an appropriate Federal or State regulatory authority.<br />

Humanistic funeral rite<br />

A funeral rite that is in essence devoid <strong>of</strong> religious connotation.<br />

Immediate burial<br />

A disposition <strong>of</strong> human remains by burial, without formal viewing, visitation, or ceremony with the body present,<br />

except for graveside services.<br />

Immediate disposition<br />

Any disposition <strong>of</strong> human remains that is completely devoid <strong>of</strong> any form <strong>of</strong> funeral rite at the time <strong>of</strong> disposition.<br />

Indigent<br />

Lack the necessities <strong>of</strong> life; needy; poor, that is, pauper.<br />

Informant<br />

One who supplies the statistical data concerning the deceased.<br />

Inhumement<br />

Inner panels<br />

Functional or ornamental covering that usually covers the foot end <strong>of</strong> the casket in the full couch casket; may be<br />

located at both the head <strong>and</strong> foot <strong>of</strong> the full couch casket.<br />

Inner sealer<br />

A metal insert to contain the remains, inserted into the casket sealing it properly.<br />

Inquest<br />

An <strong>of</strong>ficial inquiry or examination to determine the cause <strong>of</strong> death.<br />

Inter (inhume)<br />

Bury in the ground.<br />

Interment (burial, inhument)<br />

Act <strong>of</strong> placing a dead human body in the ground.<br />

Interpr<strong>of</strong>essional relationships<br />

Those relationships with individuals who are in allied fields.<br />

Intrapr<strong>of</strong>essional relationships<br />

Those relationships with individuals from within the funeral service industry.<br />

Inactive duty training<br />

Authorized training performed by a member <strong>of</strong> a Reserve Component not on active duty or active duty for training <strong>and</strong><br />

consisting <strong>of</strong> regularly scheduled unit training assemblies, additional training assemblies, periods <strong>of</strong> appropriate duty or<br />

equivalent training, <strong>and</strong> any special additional duties authorized for Reserve Component personnel by the Secretary<br />

concerned, <strong>and</strong> performed by them in connection with the prescribed activities <strong>of</strong> the organization in which they are<br />

assigned with or without pay. Does not include work or study associated with correspondence courses. Also called<br />
