Flaring square<br />
A casket shell design in which the sides <strong>and</strong> ends <strong>of</strong> the casket body flare out from the bottom to the top; a casket shell<br />
design that is narrower <strong>and</strong> shorter at the bottom than at the top.<br />
Flat finish (matte finish)<br />
A finish used on casket exteriors that is free <strong>of</strong> gloss; dull lusterless surface; no shine or gloss.<br />
Friendly fire<br />
In casualty reporting, a casualty circumstance applicable to persons killed in action or wounded in action mistakenly or<br />
accidentally by friendly forces actively engaged with the enemy, who are directing fire at a hostile force or what is<br />
thought to be a hostile force. See also casualty. (Joint Pub 1–02)<br />
Flower car<br />
A vehicle used to transport floral tributes from the place <strong>of</strong> service to the place <strong>of</strong> disposition.<br />
Flower room<br />
A room in the funeral home for the receiving <strong>and</strong> caring <strong>of</strong> floral tributes.<br />

Follow-up service<br />
Records, samples, photographs taken prior to death. These include, but are not limited to fingerprints, dental x-rays,<br />
body tissue samples, photographs <strong>of</strong> tattoos or other identifying marks. These “predeath” records would be compared<br />
against records completed after death to help establish a positive identification <strong>of</strong> a remains. (Approved for inclusion in<br />
the next edition <strong>of</strong> Joint Pub 1–02.)<br />
Foot panel<br />
A component part <strong>of</strong> the casket interior that is inside the foot portion <strong>of</strong> the casket cap.<br />
Forwarding case<br />
A service in which the deceased is transferred to another funeral home.<br />
Full couch casket<br />
A casket so designed as to display the deceased from head to foot.<br />
Funds<br />
A sum <strong>of</strong> money or other resources set aside for a specific objective.<br />
Funeral arrangements<br />
The term applied to completing <strong>of</strong> the service <strong>and</strong> financial details <strong>of</strong> a funeral at the time <strong>of</strong> need.<br />

Funeral director<br />
An individual licensed by a state or states to prepare dead human remains, other than by embalming, for interment or<br />
other means <strong>of</strong> disposition; the person who conducts funeral services <strong>and</strong> counsels with survivors.<br />
Funeral home (mortuary)<br />
A building used for the purpose <strong>of</strong> embalming, conducting funerals <strong>and</strong> supplying funeral merch<strong>and</strong>ise.<br />
