Doeskin (moleskin)<br />

A heavy durable cotton fabric with a short (1/18th inch or less), thick, velvety nap on one side; woven cloth with a<br />

suede-like appearance with a nap <strong>of</strong> less than 1/18th ounce.<br />

Dome<br />

The top <strong>of</strong> an air seal burial vault that entraps air as it is put in position; it also supports the weight <strong>of</strong> the earth above.<br />

Door badge<br />

A crepe badge or floral design placed on the door indicating the death <strong>of</strong> an individual.<br />

Double seal<br />

A method <strong>of</strong> sealing that utilizes the principles <strong>of</strong> the air seal in conjunction with an epoxy material at the junction <strong>of</strong><br />

the dome <strong>and</strong> base <strong>of</strong> the vault.<br />

Duty status whereabouts unknown<br />

A transitory casualty status, applicable only to military personnel, that is used when the responsible comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />

suspects the member may be a casualty whose absence is involuntary, but does not feel sufficient evidence currently<br />

exists to make a definite determination <strong>of</strong> missing or deceased. Also called DUSTWUN. See also casualty status. (Joint<br />

Elliptic<br />

A casket having ends in the shape <strong>of</strong> a half circle.<br />

Embalmer<br />

One who is licensed by a state or states to disinfect, preserve <strong>and</strong> restore the dead human body to a natural lifelike<br />

appearance.<br />

Embossed cloth covered finish<br />

Material having designs raised above the surface.<br />

Emergency<br />

An unforeseen combination <strong>of</strong> circumstances that results in a need for immediate action.<br />

A burial, usually on the battlefield, when conditions do not permit either evacuation for interment in a cemetery or<br />
