That part <strong>of</strong> the casket h<strong>and</strong>le that attaches the bar to the lug.<br />

Arrangement conference<br />

The meeting between the funeral director <strong>and</strong> the client family during which the funeral arrangements are discussed.<br />

Arrangement form<br />

A printed form the funeral director uses in planning the details <strong>of</strong> a funeral service with the family or friends <strong>of</strong> the<br />

decreased.<br />

Arrangement room<br />

A private room in the funeral home used specifically for the funeral director <strong>and</strong> the family to make funeral <strong>and</strong><br />

financial arrangements.<br />

At need<br />

Funeral arrangements made at the time <strong>of</strong> need.<br />

Autopsy (postmortem examination, necropsy)<br />

The dissecting <strong>of</strong> a remains for the purpose <strong>of</strong> ascertaining the cause <strong>of</strong> death.<br />

Bail h<strong>and</strong>le<br />

A single h<strong>and</strong>le in which the lug, arm <strong>and</strong> bar are combined in one unit.<br />

Bar<br />

That part <strong>of</strong> the casket h<strong>and</strong>le, attached to the lug or the arm, that is grasped by the casket bearers.<br />

Base molding<br />

That part <strong>of</strong> the casket shell that is the molding along the lower most edge <strong>of</strong> the body panels.<br />

Bed<br />

That portion <strong>of</strong> the casket upon which deceased human remains are placed.<br />

Believe to be identification<br />

The status <strong>of</strong> a name association with any remains until a positive identification has been made by competent authority.<br />

The name association is based upon unscientific evaluation <strong>of</strong> the casualty incident, certain physical evidence, <strong>and</strong><br />

witness statements. Used interchangeably with tentative identification (see Tentative identification).<br />

Beneficiary<br />

The person (or persons) who, according to law or written designation <strong>of</strong> the soldier, is entitled to receive certain<br />

benefits. A beneficiary may be one person for the death gratuity, while another person may receive the decedent’s<br />

unpaid pay <strong>and</strong> allowances. The designation <strong>of</strong> beneficiaries for death gratuity <strong>and</strong> unpaid pay <strong>and</strong> allowances does<br />

not, for instance, affect the designation <strong>of</strong> beneficiaries <strong>of</strong> life insurance, either commercial or Government sponsored,<br />

or for benefits administered by agencies outside the <strong>Army</strong>. Beneficiaries for life insurance as designated by the insured<br />

person on the policies.<br />

Bier<br />

Framework for carrying or supporting a remains or casket.<br />

BI unit pricing<br />

A method <strong>of</strong> price quotation showing separately the price <strong>of</strong> the funeral service to be rendered <strong>and</strong> the price <strong>of</strong> the<br />

casket.<br />

Blue Bark<br />

U.S. military personnel, U.S. citizen civilian employees <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Defense, <strong>and</strong> the dependents <strong>of</strong> both<br />

categories who travel in connection with the death <strong>of</strong> an immediate family member. It also applies to designated<br />

escorts for dependents <strong>of</strong> deceased military members. Furthermore, the term is used to designate the personal property<br />

shipment <strong>of</strong> a deceased member. (Joint Pub 1–02)<br />

Body<br />

That portion <strong>of</strong> the casket shell containing the top body molding, the body panel, the base molding, <strong>and</strong> casket bottom.<br />
