WOW! Celebrating 41 years of softball! What an achievement! We welcome you to the 41st Men’s and 26th Women’s<br />

Annual NorthWest <strong>Softball</strong> Association +1st Annual Coed Regional Slow-­‐Pitch <strong>Softball</strong> <strong>Tournament</strong>.<br />

<strong>NWSAD</strong> has been involved in, promoted, and supported national competitions of deaf athletics since it’s beginning. Its<br />

goals and objectives started with the sport of men's softball and expanded through the years to include women’s<br />

softball. <strong>NWSAD</strong> will experiment with Coed <strong>Softball</strong>. <strong>NWSAD</strong>’s high ideals have sustained and nurtured the organization<br />

and its members through four decades of recreational, cultural, educational, and athletic programs.<br />

We owe a great deal of thanks to the teams, officers, clubs, fans, and businesses for making this tournament happen.<br />

Without all of you, there wouldn’t be such a great tournament. Most of all, I give my utmost gratitude to Shane Yerkes<br />

and Nathan Boyes and the entire committees for dedicating tireless hours for coordinating this a great tournament.<br />

We wish the BEST of luck to all teams and participants and may the best team win! We hope you all attend NSAD<br />

Welcome to the 2011 <strong>NWSAD</strong> <strong>Tournament</strong>! Shane and Nathan, your two young and energetic co-chairmen from<br />

the Vancouver Association of the Deaf, hope that everyone has a great time and goes home sore! We have<br />

challenged ourselves to present to you several new things this year such as the KidZone and the 1st Annual Coed<br />

tournament and expect a smashing success! So, get out there with a good attitude and play ball, then go home with<br />

a smile on your face! Don’t forget to say thank you to every volunteer and committee member who had a role in<br />

making this tournament one of the best ever! Don’t forget that sunscreen and hope you make some new friends as<br />

well as catching up with the old ones. May the best teams win this weekend in the Men’s, Women’s and Coed<br />

Tom Parker<br />

Las Vegas, Nevada<br />

Graduate of California School for the Deaf, Riverside, and Tom was all around sports player, starred in<br />

basketball and track at that school. He was inducted into CSDR Hall of Fame for excellence in track. Tom first<br />

played softball for FAAD before moving on to NWAAD. He started playing for NWAAD in 1978, for Sacramento.<br />

Throughout the years, he played for various teams in NWAAD/NWADB region, who wanted him for his pitching<br />

skills. He played different position throughout his playing years but he was mainly pure pitcher. He knew how<br />

to pitch, with various style, going high, low, dead, curve or quick pitch. He had bag of tricks, playing with hitter’s<br />

mind. Many hitters were wary of his pitching style, not sure of which one he would pitch. He was also an<br />

excellent hitter, getting on the base, after knowing where to hit safely. He holds or share several records in hits,<br />

runs and sacrifice. He was batting champion in 1984 and 1986, with .615/.667. He was selected as 1 st Team<br />

All-Star in 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 91, 92 and along with 2 nd Team All-Star in 1978, 1982, 1989, 2001 and 2004. . He<br />

was MVP of the <strong>Tournament</strong> in 1984 and 1986. He was member of NWAAD/NWADB <strong>Tournament</strong> Champions<br />

in 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1997 and 2000.<br />

Annette Black<br />

San Bruno, CA<br />

Being a product of mainstream deaf/HOH program, Annette Black, terrific all around athlete, graduated from<br />

Capuchino High School in San Bruno, CA, She was one of several pioneering members of NWAAD Women<br />

<strong>Softball</strong>, when NWAAD Women <strong>Softball</strong> as officially recognized and sanctioned. She was known for her power<br />

hitting ability, along as a competitive athlete helping her teams play better. She played for 7 NWAAD Women<br />

<strong>Softball</strong> Championship Teams - Peninsula, Fremont, and Silicon Valley. She also set several NWAAD Women<br />

Records, which still stand to this day, 74 career runs, 18 Doubles, 15 HRs, along with several others records.<br />

She was also 5 times Batting AVG Champion, 1985 - .833, 1986 - .750, 1988 - .600, 1993 - .733, and 1994 -<br />

.733. She was selected as MVP 5 times, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, and 1993.<br />

Leader<br />

Jack Bargeron<br />

Portland, Oregon<br />

Jack Bargeron was well-respected coach for Portland men softball team. He played NWAAD softball since its<br />

inception in 1971 to 1989 for total of 12 seasons mainly with Portland, with batting average of .402 in 38 games.<br />

He made 2nd team all-star in 1981. His main claim to NWAAD fame came from coaching Portland to their first<br />

NWAAD softball champions at Twin Creek Park in San Jose in 1990. The 1990 Portland team snapped a 19year<br />

championship run by Seattle and SF Bay Area teams. Jack was the first coach in NWAAD history to be<br />

named as coach of the tournament 2 straight years 1989 and 1990. He led his Portland team to the AAAD<br />

tournament in 1990 at Tucson AZ winning 3 out of 5 games. He was coach for many years, for various Portland<br />

teams. He was a great leader, also knew how to manage by showing positive influence on his teams.<br />
