City Sanitation Plan, Uttarakhand DPR of Muni ki reti Sewerage and Sewage extantion work is estimated to Rs. 186.69 Lacs Rates has been taken as per P.W.D.chief engineer letter no.332/10 dated 03-7-010 for preparing primary estimate of buildings in uttrakhand Total numbers of wards in municipal area are 7. Out of these 7, 4 wards have water logging problem due to their location near bank of river. As a matter of fact during the year 2010 the upcoming flood has caused the submersion of all these 4 wards. These are 1. Swami Narayan Basic School ward 2. Veshno Devi Dharamshala ward 3. Ganga Shetra ward 4. Satrughan ward 3.5 Septage Management There is no septage clearance vehicle with the ULB as all the households are having their own septic tank/twin pits/single pit system and the clearance of pits is whole sole responsibility of the households. The MNP does not maintain record of septic tank user households and there is no monitoring of septage clearance. There is very little information available regarding the cleaning of tanks / pits through private cleaners this situation reflects that most of the tanks are not cleaned on regular basis. There is no record available with the ULB regarding the cleaning of the septic tanks. It shows that there is no proper septage management arrangement in the town at Nagar Panchayat level and it needs adequate attention to keep the environment safe and clean. City Sanitation Plan, Uttarakhand CHAPTER- 4 Drainage System 4.1 Existing scenario of the drainage system in the Town Muni ki reti is a small town which is surrounded by hilly area. Ganga River is passing through the city. To clean the Ganga River it is necessary to maintain the drainage system of the city. Some of the open drains are flowing in the river in absence of proper drainage system. Muni ki reti have seven wards of these seven four wards are located on the bank of river Ganga. Picture 4.1 showing Existing Scenario of the Drainage System in the Town At present the drainage is flowing through the existing drains, which are not adequate and constructed in the unplanned way. Most of the water flows on roads and on other vacant lands of the town. Existing open drains are choked with the openly dumped garbage creating problem mosquitoes, flees, and other diseases. Out of the seven wards four wards are located in catchments area and face problem of water logging in rainy season. Therefore there is urgent need to rectify this problem for city sanitation. 4.2 Drain cleaning There are open channels along the major road of the town to drain the rain water these open channels are locally known as “gulls”. The total length of the smaller open drains in the city is 3.5 kms. These drains are cleaned manually time to time. The waste collected from cleaning of these drains is carried with the help of tractor trolley to the dumping site near Kharashrot.
