In <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> this laird, <strong>the</strong> J^indsaya <strong>of</strong> Dunrod<br />

were concerned in a private conflict in wliich one<br />

George Hamilton waa slain. The laird was fined 200<br />

merks and four separate sums <strong>of</strong> .£80 eacli for <strong>the</strong> non-<br />

appearance <strong>of</strong> Hugh <strong>Lindsay</strong> and lour o<strong>the</strong>rs, prohably<br />

tenants or servants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family, who were accused <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> slaughter; but he was able to compound for <strong>the</strong><br />

fines. Alexander <strong>Lindsay</strong>, younger <strong>of</strong> Crosaljasket,<br />

was also fined for not producing David Anderson, con-<br />

cerned or supposed to be concerned in <strong>the</strong> same affair<br />

while Alexander Lickprivick, younger <strong>of</strong> that ilk, John<br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong> and two o<strong>the</strong>rs convicted <strong>of</strong> being art and part<br />

in <strong>the</strong> slaughter were beheaded. The two <strong>Lindsay</strong>s<br />

implicated may have been Hugh and John, sons <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fourth laird.*<br />

David <strong>Lindsay</strong> died between 25th November 1517<br />

and 24th July 1518,t having had issue<br />

? Mariota, married Robert, Lord Lyle, and was mo<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>of</strong> John, fourth and last Lord Lyle. §<br />

" George Lindesay, son and apparent heir <strong>of</strong> David<br />

Lindesay <strong>of</strong> Dunrod," was living in 1502, || Init died<br />

before his fa<strong>the</strong>r. Crawfurd, in error, says that he<br />

was disinherited in favour <strong>of</strong> a bro<strong>the</strong>r, John, and that<br />
