All <strong>the</strong> reiours <strong>of</strong> later date agree closely with <strong>the</strong><br />

above extent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> barony <strong>of</strong> Dovvhill, which, except<br />

for <strong>the</strong> Kinloch portion, appears to have remained<br />

intact until it was linally disposed <strong>of</strong> as a whole. Of<br />

<strong>the</strong> various lauds enumerated <strong>the</strong> Blair <strong>of</strong> Crambeth<br />

was apparently that which became <strong>the</strong> demesne <strong>of</strong><br />

Blairadam. Fruchtis was evidently <strong>the</strong> present Fruix.<br />

Drumlochtornoch, alias Drumlochryn, is believed to be<br />

Lochran. These, with Kinnuird and <strong>the</strong> two Niving-<br />

stons, with Gairneybridge and <strong>the</strong> temple lands <strong>of</strong><br />

Binn and Nivingston, acquired before 1G08, but not<br />

included in <strong>the</strong> barony, lay immediately around <strong>the</strong><br />

castle, and formed a compact holding ; while C/Ock-<br />

airney (Colcarny), although detached, was not far<br />

distant.<br />

The Kinloch Lands.—The lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> old barony<br />

<strong>of</strong> Kinloch are situated a few miles from Blairgowrie,<br />

traversed by <strong>the</strong> road from that town to Dunkeld.<br />

Those which were called Wester Kinloch were, in<br />

1535, acquired by Adam <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dowhill through<br />

purchase from John Cargill <strong>of</strong> Kinloch. The purcliaser,<br />

retaining his life-rent interest, settled <strong>the</strong>m in fee on<br />

his son Laurence. Afterwards, however, both <strong>the</strong><br />

property and <strong>the</strong> superiority were in <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> tlie<br />

lairds <strong>of</strong> Dowhill.<br />

Before <strong>the</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> Wester Kinloch, or about<br />

<strong>the</strong> same time, and })robably by purchase also, o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

lands and rights in <strong>the</strong> neighbourhood were in <strong>the</strong><br />

possession <strong>of</strong> Adam <strong>Lindsay</strong>, and were incorporated in<br />

<strong>the</strong> barony <strong>of</strong> Dowhill by <strong>the</strong> charter <strong>of</strong> 1541. The<br />
