Edinburgh. On <strong>the</strong> outbreak <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Uehellion <strong>of</strong> 1745<br />

he joined <strong>the</strong> Jacobite forces and acted as secretary to<br />

Lord Strathallau and to Oliphant <strong>of</strong> Gask.* Taken<br />

prisoner he was tried at York, but was acquitted.*<br />

His bro<strong>the</strong>r, James, serving as ensign in Strathallan's<br />

Horse, was made prisoner at Culloden, tried in London<br />

and condemned to death, but was reprieved when<br />

about to be led to <strong>the</strong> scaffold.*<br />

Martin <strong>Lindsay</strong> married, IGth April 1749, Jean,<br />

second daughter <strong>of</strong> Dr James Siny<strong>the</strong>, or Smith, in<br />
