mention <strong>of</strong> his action is found in any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> contem-<br />

porary histories, and although it he granted that he<br />

could have nothing to go upon hut common rumour,<br />

<strong>the</strong> tradition may well be true, that he carried a yvarn-<br />

ing to <strong>the</strong> Queen at Perth. Certainly a warning did<br />

and (2) after 1543, Marjory, daughter <strong>of</strong> Richard<br />

Stewart, Third Lord Innermeath, and widow <strong>of</strong> James<br />

Ross <strong>of</strong> Craigton. §<br />
