was discovered under <strong>the</strong> floor, and which is <strong>of</strong> so<br />

attractive a shape that it has been frequently photo-<br />

graphed and frequently reproduced in metal. The<br />

cordial thanks <strong>of</strong> all present were accorded to Mr<br />

Duncan for his courteous reception and very interesting<br />

exposition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> treasures <strong>of</strong> Biggar Kirk.<br />

The wea<strong>the</strong>r being unfortunately very wet and<br />

cold, only some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> party ventured on <strong>the</strong> seven<br />

mile drive to Covington. Arrived <strong>the</strong>re <strong>the</strong> castle and<br />

its surroundings were inspected, and an attempt made<br />

to identify <strong>the</strong> scenes <strong>of</strong> some legendary and historical<br />

incidents connected with <strong>the</strong> Covington <strong>Lindsay</strong>s.<br />

Thereafter, under <strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parish minister,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Rev. William C. :Macgregor, Covington Kirk was<br />

examined. Of unpretentious appearance but very old,<br />

<strong>the</strong> little building <strong>of</strong>fers to <strong>the</strong> ecclesiologist some<br />

notable facts and problems ; and it is hoped that Mr<br />

Macgregor will add to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>'s indebtedness to<br />

him by supplying a description for publication. By<br />

his kindness also <strong>the</strong> party had <strong>the</strong> privilege <strong>of</strong> lookincr<br />

at some passages in <strong>the</strong> Kirk Session llecords relating<br />

to old time <strong>Lindsay</strong>s.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> evening <strong>the</strong> company sat down to dinner in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Clydesdale Hotel under <strong>the</strong> chairmanship uf <strong>the</strong><br />

Rev. Canon <strong>Lindsay</strong>, Malahide, Dublin. After <strong>the</strong><br />

loyal toasts, Dr <strong>Lindsay</strong>, Glasgow, j)roposed <strong>the</strong> health<br />

<strong>of</strong> " The Chief," and took occasion to congratulate <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong>s on <strong>the</strong> fact that for generations back <strong>the</strong> heads<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> clan had not been content to rest on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

hereditary honours, but had each sought and won for<br />

himself a worthy place in <strong>the</strong> estimation <strong>of</strong> his con-<br />

temporaries ; and that same course, he said, was being<br />

successfully pursued by <strong>the</strong> present Chief Mr Robert
