In or before tlie year 1287 Sir John liud resigned
the Great Ohainberkiinsliip, or otherwise ijcon replaced
in the office by Sir Alexander do IkiIioI;! and he
appears to have died before liiiiG. This we picsuine
from the fact that in that year his son and heir Sir
Philip was required to do homage to King Edward
along with the rest of the Scottish nation. While his
father was alive Sir Philip's interests lay mainly in
England, and it must surely have been by reason of
his having succeeded to his father's lands and status
in Scotland that his name is entered among those of
the principal laymen, who are enumerated in the
Ragman Ptoll immediately after the great churcli
dignitaries, I

Sir Philip is the second known to us of the Lind.say
lairds of Wauchope.
