along with <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scottish nation. While his<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r was alive Sir Philip's interests lay mainly in<br />

England, and it must surely have been by reason <strong>of</strong><br />

his having succeeded to his fa<strong>the</strong>r's lands and status<br />

in <strong>Scotland</strong> that his name is entered among those <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> principal laymen, who are enumerated in <strong>the</strong><br />

Ragman Ptoll immediately after <strong>the</strong> great churcli<br />

Sir Philip is <strong>the</strong> second known to us <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lind.say<br />
