C. Sturrock, Edzell, explained the various interesting features of the building, and also gave a short sketch of its history. Edzell Castle, so far as is known, has twice been honoured by the presence of Royalty. Mary, Queen of Scots, held a council on the 25th August 1562, and afterwards stayed over night, and the room she slept in was always known as the Queen's Chamber. King James VI also visited the Castle in 1580. ;
