<strong>of</strong> Meikle Corsock, were retained by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lindsay</strong>s<br />

until <strong>the</strong> final dispersal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir estates.<br />

The present estate <strong>of</strong> Corsock includes <strong>the</strong> old<br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong> lands, and o<strong>the</strong>rs. The projjrietor is Captain<br />

Murray-Dunlop, whose fa<strong>the</strong>r, Alexander Colquhuun-<br />

Stirling-Murray-Dunlop, M.l*. for Greenock, played a<br />

distinguished part in <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Free Church<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong>, and whose sister, <strong>the</strong> late Mrs <strong>Lindsay</strong>,<br />

was <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rev. Principal <strong>Lindsay</strong>, United<br />

Free Church College, Glasgow.<br />

Fairgirth Arms.—A fess chequey between two<br />

mullets in. chief and one in base.f<br />

Rascarrel.<br />

Rasoarrel, in <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> Rerwick, Kirkcudbright-<br />

shire, was part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tempoiality <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Abbey <strong>of</strong><br />

Dundrennan. The Conunendatur <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> xAbbey,<br />

Edward, third son <strong>of</strong> Sir John Maxwell, fourth Lord<br />

Herries, with consent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> chapter, granted a charter<br />

<strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> abbey lands, including Rascarrel, in<br />

ftivour <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r James. These lands afterwards<br />

reverted to <strong>the</strong> Commendator, who, by his marriage<br />

with <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir William Baillie, became laird<br />

<strong>of</strong> Lamington.<br />
