and his name (wrongly given as John) appears in <strong>the</strong><br />

list <strong>of</strong> six or seven hundred persons who were exempted<br />

from <strong>the</strong> benefits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Act <strong>of</strong> Lideninity <strong>of</strong> 1GG2<br />

until <strong>the</strong>y had paid <strong>the</strong> fines imposed on tliem.f<br />

Fairgirth was fined ilGOO, and until this sum was<br />

handed over to <strong>the</strong> Government he wus liable to be<br />

called to account for anything in his conduct during<br />

<strong>the</strong> Parliamentary Wars and Protectorate <strong>of</strong> Cromwell<br />

that might be construed as treason. He died at this<br />

time, however, for in IGG3 his widow, Mary A! array, is<br />

mentioned as being <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> wife <strong>of</strong> William Gordon<br />

now appear to have been restored to <strong>the</strong>ir original<br />

status as a crown holding.<br />
