of the crown lands in GaUoway.t Evidently he was
a man of opulent means, but so far as the records show
he took little part in public aflairs. Ou]y on one
occasion is lie mentioned, when he acted as Steward-
Depute of Kirkcudbright.
He seems to have died about ir>'20, having had
issue :

Herbert Lindsay, younger of Fairgirth, was living
in 1512, but was dead in 1517, having been slain in
battle, no doubt at Flodden in 1513.*''*' By his wife,
Elizabeth M'Clellan, he had issue :
