Biackrock, Cork, which only increased as years went<br />

on, and few men, as I well recollect, received such<br />

constant and unfeigned marks <strong>of</strong> respect from high<br />

and low as <strong>the</strong> old "Counsellor."<br />

^Ilie brief account <strong>of</strong> his character on <strong>the</strong> memorial<br />

tablet in <strong>the</strong> chancel <strong>of</strong> St Michael's Church, Hlack-<br />

rock, Cork, is as follows :— " A sincere Christian and<br />

a most benevolent man ; with all his high intellectual<br />

acquirements he possessed <strong>the</strong> humility <strong>of</strong> a child. lie<br />

expired surrounded by his family, showing forth in hia<br />

last moments a bright example <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

righteous."<br />

He married in 1817 Anne, daughter <strong>of</strong> Peter<br />

Morgan <strong>of</strong> Bridestown, Co. Cork, by whom he had five<br />

sons and one daughter, and died on <strong>the</strong> last day <strong>of</strong><br />

1870 in his 82nd year.
