After <strong>the</strong> loyal toasts had been honoured, <strong>the</strong> toaat<br />

<strong>of</strong> **The Imperial Forces," given by Mr Robert<br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong>, Bearsden, was responded to by Sir Robert J<br />

Cranston, who strongly advised all young men to be- '<br />

come members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Territorial Force. Judge<br />

Dobie proposed "Success to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clan</strong> <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>Society</strong>,"<br />

saying that <strong>the</strong> term " <strong>Clan</strong>nish " wius one that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

should be proud <strong>of</strong>^ as being an expression <strong>of</strong> local<br />

patriotism which was so desirable in any country. la<br />

reply, <strong>the</strong> Chairman spoke <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> discovery <strong>of</strong> an in-<br />

teresting document throwing light on <strong>the</strong> mairiage <strong>of</strong><br />

David, first Earl <strong>of</strong> Crawford, to Elizabeth, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> King <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong>. It was always known that<br />

<strong>the</strong> first Earl had married <strong>the</strong> King's daughter, but no<br />

record could be found as to her name, or anything<br />

about her. The document was dated 1374, and had<br />

been found in <strong>the</strong> Vatican by Dr Maitland Thomson. It<br />

was a dispensation <strong>of</strong> marriage, addressed personally to<br />

David <strong>Lindsay</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> Alexander, lord <strong>of</strong> thu lands <strong>of</strong><br />

Glenesk, and Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> King, granted<br />

by Pope Gregory on <strong>the</strong> ground that <strong>the</strong>y were third<br />

cousins. Mr R. J. <strong>Lindsay</strong> also replied.<br />

Dr <strong>Lindsay</strong>, Glasgow, gave " The Health <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Chief," <strong>the</strong> Earl <strong>of</strong> Crawford and <strong>the</strong> Rev. <strong>the</strong> Hon.<br />

Edward <strong>Lindsay</strong>, his son, replied. He said <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

not a benefit society, and <strong>the</strong>re was nothing <strong>of</strong> freemasonry<br />

about it. They were met for <strong>the</strong> general<br />

maintenance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> traditions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir family.<br />
