THE GATHERING AT KILCONQUHAR. C9<br />

to convey to <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Society</strong> our best wishes.<br />

Mr William Lindsey, in replying, said he was <strong>the</strong>re<br />

that day in a dual position. He represented <strong>the</strong><br />

American <strong>Society</strong> as its President, and was a full<br />

private <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clan</strong> <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scotland</strong>. He stated<br />

that he would convey <strong>the</strong> mes.sage so kindly given,<br />

and he felt sure that <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Lindsay</strong>s would be<br />

very interested to hear from him <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> magnificent<br />

receptions which had been accorded to <strong>the</strong>m on <strong>the</strong><br />

occasion <strong>of</strong> this ga<strong>the</strong>ring. After a photographic<br />

group had been taken in front <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house, <strong>the</strong> drive<br />

was continued to Balcarres, <strong>the</strong> home <strong>of</strong> our noble<br />

Chieftain. In <strong>the</strong> absence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Earl, <strong>the</strong> party were<br />

received by <strong>the</strong> Countess <strong>of</strong> Crawford and Lord and<br />

Lady Balcarres, whose kindness made <strong>the</strong> visit one <strong>of</strong><br />

unalloyed pleasure. A visit was paid to <strong>the</strong> magnifi-<br />

cent house and grounds. Before leaving, tea was par-<br />

taken <strong>of</strong>, and <strong>the</strong> Countess and those <strong>of</strong> her family<br />

and friends who assisted in making <strong>the</strong> visit a<br />

memorable one were warmly thanked. Hearty cheers<br />

were raised by <strong>the</strong> party on leaving.<br />

A considerable number <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lindsay</strong>s remained over<br />

<strong>the</strong> week-end in St Andrews.<br />

The Ga<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>of</strong> 1907 will long be remembered<br />

by those who had <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong> being present for <strong>the</strong><br />

many kindnesses extended to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Clan</strong> on all hands.
