<strong>Lindsay</strong>, <strong>the</strong> heir <strong>of</strong> this marriage, was infeft in Lick-<br />

privick in 1540, but immediately exchanged that<br />

estate for <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> Linbank in <strong>the</strong> Ijarony <strong>of</strong> Avon-<br />

dale.''*' Elizabeth, his daughter and heires.s, succeeding<br />

in 1562, t married one Alexander <strong>Lindsay</strong>, who has<br />

not been identified. { In 1607 Robert <strong>Lindsay</strong> was<br />

served heir to his mo<strong>the</strong>r, Elizubeth <strong>of</strong> Linbank, in <strong>the</strong><br />

estates, and in <strong>the</strong> oiiice <strong>of</strong> sergeant and c(a-uner. These<br />

estates, besides Linbank, included all or part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

lands <strong>of</strong> Drumboy, Drumcoule, Flatt, and Cru<strong>the</strong>rland<br />

in Kilbride, and Little Binend in Eaglesham. § Lin-<br />

bank, and all or some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r lands, were acquired<br />

by Sir John <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dunrod, who settled <strong>the</strong>m on<br />

his son David. || In 1623 <strong>the</strong> coronership was sold<br />

to Robert Hamilton, elder, <strong>of</strong> Torrance, by Robert<br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong>, formerly <strong>of</strong> Linbank, with c(-»nyent <strong>of</strong> David<br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong>, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>of</strong> Linbank, and <strong>of</strong> Sir James Hamilton<br />

<strong>of</strong> Fingalton. H<br />

ViCARLAND.—Mr James <strong>Lindsay</strong>, vicar <strong>of</strong> Cambus-<br />

lang (1550-1557, or longer),** seems to have been a<br />

cadet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Crossbasket family. The lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

vicaragfe, situated near <strong>the</strong> i)arish church, and called<br />

Vicarland, came into possession <strong>of</strong> a family <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Lindsay</strong>s, heirs perhaps <strong>of</strong> Mr James, and were<br />

enjoyed by <strong>the</strong>m for more than a century. Following<br />
