merk-land <strong>of</strong> Overmuir.* In 14i)4 all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ni were<br />

granted to Alexander <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>of</strong> Crossbasket by his<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> fourth laird <strong>of</strong> Dunrod. f They were<br />

retained in <strong>the</strong>ir own handy by <strong>the</strong> ehiefs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line<br />

<strong>of</strong> Crossbaaket until <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 17ih century,<br />

when Alexander <strong>Lindsay</strong> <strong>of</strong> Dunrod granted <strong>the</strong>m to<br />

his bro<strong>the</strong>r, Mr John, <strong>of</strong> Southwood, who in 1G24 sold<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to Robert Hamilton <strong>of</strong> Torrance, j<br />

On <strong>the</strong> dispersal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kilbride lands belonging<br />

to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lindsay</strong>s <strong>of</strong> Dunrod, <strong>the</strong> Mains, East and<br />

West Rogerton, Ilighflat, Brousterland, Bogton, and<br />

Warnock's-Thornton were purchased by William<br />

Hamilton, eldest son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> deceased William Hamilton<br />

<strong>of</strong> Duncanrig. § Before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> seventeenth<br />

century <strong>the</strong>y were in possession <strong>of</strong> a family <strong>of</strong><br />

Thomsons, styled " <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mains." ||<br />

Easter Kittochside, Nerston, and <strong>the</strong> lands and<br />

mill <strong>of</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>r Philipshill, were acquired by <strong>the</strong><br />

Flemings <strong>of</strong> The Peel. H<br />

The Murrays and Headhouse, Over Philipshill<br />

(Hairmyres), Cross, Braehead, Overshiells, and <strong>the</strong><br />

lands in <strong>the</strong> south <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parish, namely, Crosshill,<br />

Auldhouse, Lairfad, Burnhouse, Aikinfin, Carnduff,<br />

Blackburn, and East and West Flakefield, as well aa<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> sergeant and coroner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole regality,<br />
