Chapter 3: Storage Design
Overview
Introduction to
storage design
The environment consisted of a two-node Oracle 11g RAC cluster that accessed a
single production database. Each cluster node resided on its own server, which is a
typical Oracle RAC configuration. The two RAC nodes communicated with each
other through a dedicated private network that includes a Cisco Catalyst 3750G-
48TS switch. This cluster interconnection synchronized cache across various
database instances between user requests. The 10 GbE backup network was
created using a Brocade TurboIron 24 switch. A Fibre Channel SAN was provided by
two Brocade 4900 switches. EMC PowerPath was used in this solution and works
with the storage system to intelligently manage I/O paths. In this solution, for each
server, PowerPath managed four active I/O paths to each device and four passive
I/O paths to each device.
