Plein Air or Making Art
“In the Open Air”
Art. It’s not magic, it’s a process. It’s a skill
that can be taught and observed in action.
Wisconsin’s natural beauty sets the stage for
our plein air artists who seek to capture all the
great outdoors has to offer in real time, on location,
where bug spray may be just as important
as green paint and brushes.
Want to know “how do they do that?” This is
the time and place to learn from the experts.
Generally lasting 3-5 days, plein air festivals
welcome those who want to know more, and
welcome your questions while letting you observe
first-hand the mechanics and skill that
are the building blocks of creative expression.
Each year, the number of plein air events
grows. Some are competitions where prize
money is awarded, others are community fund
raisers where arts enthusiasts can bid on fresh
off the brush artwork. But always, it is the
artist taking on nature rain or shine.
We will set you on a path with some dates to
mark on your calendar then hope you’ll tap into
the Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association’s
website – http://wipapa.blogspot.com/ – where
the latest events are listed. Who knows, you
may even be inspired to join in the fun.
