fore with all attention, and receive from him the doctrine of<br />

the faith; and from the elders the monitions of life; and from<br />

the attendants the order of discipline. Have a diligent care of<br />

widows; vigorously assist orphans; take pity on the poor;<br />

teach the young modesty;-and in a word, sustain one another<br />

as circumstances shall demand; worship Yahweh who created<br />

heaven and earth; believe in Moshiach; love one another; be<br />

compassionate to all; and fulfill love not only in word, but in<br />

Chapter LXVII: Invitation to Mikvah<br />

When he had given them these and such like precepts, he<br />

esolved<br />

to stay three months with you, if any one desires it, let<br />

him be immersed in the mikvah, that, stripped of his former<br />

evils, he may for the future, in consequence of his own conduct,<br />

become heir of heavenly blessings, as a reward for his<br />

good actions. Whosoever will, then, let him come to Zacchai<br />

and give his name to him, and let him hear from him the mysteries<br />

of the kingdom of heaven. Let him attend to frequent<br />

fastings, and approve himself in all things, that at the end of<br />

these three months he may be immersed on the day of the festival.<br />

But every one of you shall be immersed in ever flowing<br />

waters, the name of the Master Yahshua being invoked over<br />

him; he being first anointed with oil set-apart by prayer, that<br />

so at length, being consecrated by these things, he may attain<br />

a perception of set-<br />

Chapter LXVIII: Twelve Sent Before Him<br />

And when he had spoken at length on the subject of mikvah,<br />

he dismissed the crowd, and betook himself to his usual<br />

place of abode; and there, while the twelve stood around him<br />

(namely, Zacchai and Tsephanyahu, Yosef and Micha-El, El-<br />

Eazar and Pinchas, El-Azar and El-Isha, I Clement and Nakdimon,<br />

Niceta and Aquila), he addressed us to the following ef-<br />
