In <strong>this</strong> year died Alexander, k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong>, on the<br />

fifteenth 2 before the Kalends of April.<br />

Alexander also, k<strong>in</strong>g of the Scots, died ; and of his death<br />

diverse men thought diversely.<br />

This k<strong>in</strong>g left no heir born of his body and for <strong>this</strong> cause<br />

;<br />

diverse men for diverse reasons claimed the succession to the<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom. Nevertheless because his wife 3 whom he had<br />

recently married seemed to be pregnant, the claims to that<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom lay dormant. 4<br />
