In the same year [1220], <strong>in</strong> the month of June, 1 the k<strong>in</strong>g of<br />
<strong>Scotland</strong> betrothed himself at York to the sister of K<strong>in</strong>g Henry<br />
of England. And for <strong>this</strong> reason the same k<strong>in</strong>g of England<br />
conceded to him five thousand marks, and promised to marry<br />
his two sisters (whom he had <strong>in</strong> keep<strong>in</strong>g) with<strong>in</strong> a year, without<br />
mesalliance, or to restore them to him <strong>in</strong> freedom. 2<br />
