he stays at court, and <strong>in</strong> his provision<strong>in</strong>gs and <strong>in</strong> all his<br />

liberties, dignities and honours rightfully due ; accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

what shall be accepted by four of our nobles appo<strong>in</strong>ted by<br />

k<strong>in</strong>g William, and by four of his nobles appo<strong>in</strong>ted by us.<br />

" And if any of our vassals contrary to justice 1 have<br />

appropriated borders or 2 marches of the k<strong>in</strong>gdom of <strong>Scotland</strong><br />

after the aforesaid k<strong>in</strong>g William was taken by our father,<br />

we will that they be wholly restored, and brought back to<br />

the same condition <strong>in</strong> which they were before his capture.<br />

as Malcolm 5 possessed or ought to have possessed them ;<br />
