And he received her <strong>in</strong> the holy law of matrimony, and<br />

bound her to him <strong>in</strong> alliance of marriage at Woodstock <strong>in</strong><br />

the greater chapel of the k<strong>in</strong>g, on the Nones of September ;<br />

and clergy and people, gave <strong>in</strong> dowry to the aforesaid girl<br />

the castle which is called Of Maidens, which the k<strong>in</strong>g of England<br />

restored on <strong>this</strong> condition and a hundred ; marks 2 of revenue<br />

yearly, and forty knights <strong>in</strong> vassalage.<br />

So when mass had been celebrated and all th<strong>in</strong>gs done <strong>in</strong><br />

order, the k<strong>in</strong>g of England betook himself to another residence,<br />

and gave up his palace to the k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong> and<br />

his wife, to celebrate their nuptials t<strong>here</strong>. And the k<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

England supplied them t<strong>here</strong> with all necessaries.<br />

And when the nuptials had been celebrated for four days,<br />

the lord k<strong>in</strong>g of England went to Marlborough, and the k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of <strong>Scotland</strong> with him. And the k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong> delivered<br />

his wife to Joscel<strong>in</strong>, bishop of Glasgow, and to his earls and<br />

barons, to conduct her to his own land. 3<br />

Meanwhile William, k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong>, collected a great army,<br />

and set out for Moray, to subdue a certa<strong>in</strong> enemy of his, who<br />
