Maidens, 1 and the castle of Stirl<strong>in</strong>g, 2 at the mercy of the lord<br />

k<strong>in</strong>g ; and the k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong> shall assign of his revenue for<br />

the keep<strong>in</strong>g of these castles an amount accord<strong>in</strong>g to the will<br />

of the lord k<strong>in</strong>g. 3<br />

" Moreover <strong>in</strong> token of the fulfilment of the aforesaid agreement<br />

and compact, the k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong> has delivered up to the<br />

lord k<strong>in</strong>g his brother David as hostage, and earl Dun<strong>can</strong>, and<br />

earl Waldeve, and earl Gilbert, and the earl of Angus, and<br />

Richard de Moreville the constable, and Nes 4 son of William,<br />

and Richard Cum<strong>in</strong>, and Walter Corbet, and Walter Olifard,<br />

and John de Vaux, and William de L<strong>in</strong>dsey, and Philip de<br />

Coleville, and Philip de Valognes, and Robert Frenbert, and<br />

Robert de Burneville, and Hugh Giffard, and Hugh Ridel, and<br />

Walter de Berkeley, and William de Haye, and William de<br />

Mortimer.<br />

And when the castles have been rendered, William, k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of <strong>Scotland</strong>, and David his brother shall be released. The<br />

aforesaid earls and barons, too, each one after he has delivered<br />

his hostage, (namely a legitimate son, if he have one ;<br />

others, their grandsons or nearest heirs,) and, as has been said,<br />

after the castles have been rendered, shall be set at liberty.<br />

Moreover the k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>Scotland</strong> and his barons aforesaid<br />

have engaged that they will cause <strong>in</strong> good faith, and without<br />

evil <strong>in</strong>tention, and without pretext, that the bishops and barons<br />

and men of their land who were not present when the k<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

<strong>Scotland</strong> compacted with the lord k<strong>in</strong>g, shall do the same allegiance<br />

and fealty to the lord k<strong>in</strong>g and to Henry his son as they<br />

themselves have done ; and that the barons and vassals who<br />

were not present 5 shall deliver to the lord k<strong>in</strong>g hostages for all<br />

for which he wishes to have them.<br />
