Ballad
The king sat upon his throne
Before his sages old.
"Who can find for me a prince
Who is strong and brave and bold?"
"I have a lovely daughter
Who needs to find her man
For soon she will be sixteen
But who should take her hand?"
"Across the sea there lives a prince
Who is so rich and brave
' Hundred slaves wait on him a day
But he's old, soon for the grave."
"Then all his princely treasure
Could be yours, 0 great sire.
Marry her to him today
And he'll die before he'll tire."
But the king's lovely daughter
Back from her lover young
Overheard and listened in
And then stuck out her tongue.
"Never shall I marry him
He's much too old for me.
I' ll go back to my love tonight
And together we shall flee ."
She met her love upon the moor
Their words of love were said
in the morn they found a church
And together they were wed.
The next day the king was sad
His girl could not be found
He searched his castle and his land
And found her ring upon the ground. ...,.
A year and a day he searched
Until he could search no more
He rode to a house for rest
And knocked upon the door
A pretty woman answered
With a baby in her arms
Her manner was familiar
And had so many charms.
