and pleasing VF in fi ne style. $550.<br />

19 CALABRIA: TARAS. 302-231 BC. Silver Didrachm,<br />

20mm (7.87 gm). O: Nike to left, seizing forelock of<br />

prancing horse ridden by helmeted horseman. R: Taras<br />

rising on dolphin traveling left. cf. Vlasto 679. A rare<br />

variety. Slightly de-centered, VF. $750.<br />

20 CALABRIA: TARAS. 272-235 BC. . Silver Didrachm,<br />

20mm (6.31 gm). O: Horseman as jockey on horse left,<br />

which he crowns. R: Taras seated on dolphin traveling<br />

left, brandishing trident; owl in fi eld to right. cf. SNG.<br />

to right, wearing triple-crested helmet. R: Owl standing<br />

(7.72 gm). O: Man-headed bull standing right, looking<br />

back. R: Man headed bull standing left, looking back,<br />

in incuse. cf. SNG. Copenhagen 1145. Very rare.<br />

Lightly toned and pleasing VF in good metal. $22,500.<br />

23 LUCANIA: METAPONTION. 470-440 BC. Silver<br />

Didrachm, 19mm (8.07 gm). O: Ear of barley; ram’s head<br />

in fi eld to left. R: Ear of barley incuse. cf. Johnston-Noe<br />

223. Die break on reverse, pleasing VF. $1750.<br />

24 LUCANIA: METAPONTION. 215-207 BC. Silver<br />

Punic Half-shekel, 20mm (3.52 gm). O: Helmeted head of<br />

Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. R: Ear<br />

of corn, leaf and small owl to right. cf. SNG. ANS. 550.<br />

Nicely toned and EF in good metal. $3750.<br />

25 LUCANIA: POSEIDONIA. 530-500 BC. Silver Drachm,<br />

20mm (3.30 gm). O: Poseidon, naked but for chlamys<br />

over shoulder, advancing right, brandishing ornamented<br />

trident. R: As obverse, but in incuse and viewed from the<br />

other side, thus advancing left. cf. SNG. ANS. 2; SG. 242.<br />

Very rare. Toned. An evenly struck and impressive EF.<br />

26 LUCANIA: SYBARIS. 530-510 BC. Silver Third Stater,<br />

19mm (2.57 gm). O: Bull standing left, looking back. R:<br />
