SECTION B – GENERAL SHOWING RULES FOR<br />
BSPA SHOWS – continued<br />
51. Age - Horses <strong>and</strong> ponies must be four years old <strong>and</strong> over in all ridden classes. The age should<br />
be calculated from 1st January in the year of their birth.<br />
51B. Traditional Cob Yearlings must be shown in their natural state – no clipping out of body hair.<br />
52. Registered Name - a horse/pony must be shown under the name in which it was originally<br />
registered. All prefixes must be registered with the BSPA. Otherwise they will be deleted from<br />
catalogues.<br />
53. Weights/Classification - Once a horse/pony has been competed within a certain weight (LW<br />
MW HW) OR Classification (Native/Non Native) they MUST continue in this for the whole of the<br />
Season <strong>and</strong> within any Championships qualified for. Any changes will remain permanent thereafter.<br />
54. Riders Ages - All riders must have attained their 3rd birthday by January 1st, or by the day of<br />
the show stallions may only be ridden by riders who have attained their 14th birthday by 1st Jan.<br />
RIHS, Horses exceeding 153cms riders must have attained their 15th birthday by 1st January.<br />
54B. Horse <strong>and</strong> pony ages taken from 1st January<br />
55. Registration - Horses/ponies must be registered <strong>and</strong> entered in the name of the legal owner or<br />
leasor. Any change of legal ownership of any horse/pony registered with the BSPA. A responsible<br />
adult must be the joint owner where juniors are named owners. Public liability issue.<br />
55B. Sales <strong>and</strong> Changes of Ownership - Change of ownership of horses/ponies with BSPA<br />
Passports should be completed within 14 days of purchase by the new owner/s. The appropriate fee<br />
must be paid. Overstamped Passports - Passports that have been overstamped by BSPA. Changes<br />
of ownership should be sent with a copy of the change of ownership page from the original Passport.<br />
No cards will be issued unless accompanied by new owner details from the Passport.<br />
56. Stallions/colts - may not be led/ridden by juniors who have not attained their 14th birthday by<br />
1st January annually at any show affiliated to the BSPA.<br />
When juniors (18 yrs or younger) are mounted on stallions, they do so entirely at the owners/parents<br />
risk. Entry is deemed an indemnity for the BSPA. All mounts must be in the control of the rider at<br />
all times <strong>and</strong> when led. Outside assistance is not permissible.<br />
57. In First Ridden - classes, ponies should not be cantered except in their individual shows.<br />
58. Bits - Animals should be shown in appropriate <strong>and</strong> suitable bits for their classification. Judges<br />
discretion will be applied. Bloody Mouth – in all cases if an exhibits mouth is found to be bloody, at<br />
the judges discretion they may be asked to leave the ring.<br />
Running Gags or Bitless/Hackamore Bridles are not permitted.<br />
A) Novices - Any BSPA Novice horse or pony must be shown in a suitable snaffle bridle. Judges will<br />
take into consideration the severity of the bit, <strong>and</strong> judge’s opinions on suitable bridles may vary <strong>and</strong><br />
their decision is final. Cavesson noseb<strong>and</strong> only.<br />
B) Saddles must be worn in all ridden classes. No seat savers or treeless saddles are permitted<br />
C) No outside assistance of any kind is permitted to anyone competing in the ring, In-h<strong>and</strong> or<br />
Ridden, to include radio or transmitting devices.<br />
59. Any abuse of Officers/Officials of the BSPA will result in membership being refused or<br />
suspended.<br />
