SECTION B – GENERAL SHOWING RULES FOR<br />

BSPA SHOWS<br />

NO MOBILE PHONES MAY BE USED IN THE RING<br />

40. The BSPA reserves the right at their absolute discretion to refuse applications for<br />

Memberships <strong>and</strong> Show Affiliations.<br />

41. Show Secretaries should do their utmost to inform competitors <strong>and</strong> the BSPA of any<br />

Judge changes.<br />

42. Membership <strong>and</strong> Horse Registration will be suspended immediately if cheques payable to<br />

the BSPA are not honoured by the bank or if there is any money owning to BSPA.<br />

Debt or Fines Rule - Monies due to the BSPA (from whatever circumstance) may at the<br />

absolute discretion of the Council, be deducted from payments of prize money outst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

to any member.<br />

43. Correspondence of any kind having insufficient postage may be refused as BSPA will not<br />

pay additional postage to receive these items.<br />

44. It is a requirement for Judges to be familiar with BSPA Rules. (See Rule 25).<br />

45A. Spurs - no spurs/dress spurs may be worn in any Pony or Working Hunter Pony Ridden class<br />

or by any adult in a Ridden Pony class. Where combined classes are held (horse/pony) no exhibitor<br />

may wear spurs. (see Rule 4)<br />

45B. Spurs must be of Prince of Wales design – <strong>and</strong> made entirely of metal. Neck of the spur should<br />

not exceed 3cms, spurs with rough or cutting edges rowells, or serrated spurs are now allowed. Spurs<br />

are to be worn with curve of the neck directed downwards. .<br />

46. Show canes - Whips are not to exceed 30” (75cms). Dressage whips may not be used. In lead<br />

rein classes or in-h<strong>and</strong> classes plain or leather covered canes only may be used.<br />

47. Hard hats - must be worn to the approved current BSI st<strong>and</strong>ard - refer Schedule, with the<br />

exception of: - Western Riding, Paint Horse classes, or any evening performance where Bowlers <strong>and</strong><br />

Top Hats may be worn at riders risk <strong>and</strong> responsibility. No junior rider under 18yrs at at 1st Jan may<br />

wear a top hat or Bowler in any Championship or Gala Class under any circumstances.<br />

NB: These <strong>rules</strong> may be superseded by any individual Affiliated Shows own <strong>rules</strong> refer to their<br />

Show Schedule <strong>and</strong> act accordingly.<br />

47B. In-h<strong>and</strong> classes - No cross nose b<strong>and</strong>s permitted. Junior exhibitors 18 yrs <strong>and</strong> under<br />

competing in In-h<strong>and</strong> Classes MUST wear hard hats with chin straps at all BSPA affiliated shows.<br />

47C. No showjumping style hats in BSPA affiliated classes with the exception of Working Hunters.<br />

48. Snaffle Bridles with plain/cavesson noseb<strong>and</strong> are permitted (without penalty) in all classes.<br />

Some classes e.g. Riding Club horse/Novice or 4 year olds may require particular biting<br />

arrangements Competitors must refer to all show schedules for guidance.<br />

49. All stallions - 4 year <strong>and</strong> over MUST be graded, licensed <strong>and</strong> registered with BSPA<br />

50. Boots - are permissible in phase 1 of W.H., or Style <strong>and</strong> Performance class only. At no other time<br />

can a change of saddlery be permitted. Front boots only permitted.<br />
