14. Judges - MUST ensure that all exhibits are judged on their own performance, manners <strong>and</strong><br />

qualities ON THE DAY <strong>and</strong> not be influenced by any previous performance either in a previous class<br />

or at another competition.<br />

15. Judges - should ensure that horses/ponies are stripped for conformation examination whenever<br />

possible. For RIHS Qualifiers this must always be done.<br />

16. Numbers forward - (Ridden/W.H.) Where these are very large or the scheduled time is limited,<br />

it is ESSENTIAL for judges to see exhibits trotted towards <strong>and</strong> away from them.<br />

17. Galloping - is an essential part of a Working Hunter/WHP <strong>and</strong> Show Hunter/Hunter Pony<br />

performance, ground conditions should be taken into consideration.<br />

18. Judges - must NOT ask the breeding of any exhibit <strong>and</strong>/or be given a copy of the show catalogue<br />

prior to the completion of the Winter or Summer Championship shows.<br />

19. Exhibitors - are required to withdraw from a class if the judge has an interest in his/her exhibit.<br />

For the purpose of this rule a conflict of interest is defined as.<br />

A judge has an interest in an exhibit if he/she has owned, trained, kept it at livery or ridden it<br />

in any competition. Or has had or still has a financial interest or gain from it, or has bred it, or<br />

who’s stallion whilst in their ownership/control, has sired it.<br />

20. Judges - must not knowingly judge any rider who has shown a horse belonging to him/her, or<br />

produced by him/her, during the current season or for whom the judge has ridden/produced any<br />

exhibit since 2009.<br />

21. Judges - May not judge at the same show they are exhibiting. May not judge animals owned by<br />

relatives or business partners. May not judge past or present employees or persons who have<br />

ridden/exhibited/produced their animals. May not judge persons who they have given individual<br />

lesson on a one to one basis – group lessons or training days with six or more students is acceptable.<br />

22. Judges - are required to give particular attention to manners whilst judging. If a judge considers<br />

an exhibit to be ill mannered, even on its second or Championship appearance, it should affect the<br />

final placing. This WILL also apply to Supreme Championships.<br />

23. A judge - should not be an exhibitor, trainer, producer or rider at any show at which he/she is<br />

judging in any class on the same day. Probationary judges included.<br />

24. RIHS JUDGES - ALL Judges for the Royal International MUST be selected from the BSPA RIHS<br />

panel<br />

25. Judges - may not judge at more than one RIHS qualifier in their Region/Area in any one year. It<br />

is the judge’s responsibility to inform Show Secretaries.<br />

25A. Judges Travelling Fees/Expenses - Shows should pay Judges reasonable travelling<br />

expenses. The amount to be agreed prior to the event. It is recommended 30p per mile.<br />

25B. The BSPA reserves the right to alter a Judges classification. All judges are appointed<br />

annually<br />

26. THE JUDGE’S DECISION IS FINAL.<br />

27. Rider change - Once a class has commenced, there shall be no change of rider except in a<br />

Championship class, when any exhibitor has more than one exhibit eligible to compete. No horse or<br />

rider may leave the ring, except with the permission of the judge.<br />
