SECTION A – GUIDELINES, RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR<br />
JUDGES AND SHOW SECRETARIES<br />
NO MOBILE TELEPHONES TO BE USED IN THE RING.<br />
1. ALL affiliated shows MUST select judges from the BSPA Panel, in order to hold qualifying classes.<br />
It is encouraged that probationer judges or those unable to judge qualifiers are invited whenever<br />
possible to assist senior judges. Apprentice riding judges are permitted to assist non-riding<br />
judges in Ridden Horse classes but should carry their own insurance.<br />
2. Judges - are normally expected to ride ALL horse exhibits in a Ridden Horse class. Certain<br />
judges are ‘non-riding’; under these circumstances a display is acceptable.<br />
3. Ponies - MUST NEVER be ridden in any pony class. No spurs in pony classes. 153cms <strong>and</strong> under.<br />
4. Ridden Horse/Pony classes - in combined classes NO exhibit will be ridden by the judge. No<br />
spurs may be worn by any competitor.<br />
Championships: If an exhibit has qualified from a horse class then spurs may be worn.<br />
5. JUDGES - may refuse to ride any exhibit they deem to be unsafe, badly behaved or ill<br />
prepared. In these circumstances the exhibits may not be placed <strong>and</strong> may be asked to leave<br />
the ring at the Judges discretion.<br />
6. Exhibitors – wishing to leave the ring prior to the end of any class MUST ask the judge’s<br />
permission before doing so.<br />
7. JUDGES PLEASE NOTE: In Qualifying classes <strong>and</strong> Championship Shows, No horse/pony<br />
(ridden) may enter the ring or compete in any class once that class has commenced trotting<br />
<strong>and</strong> no horse/pony (in h<strong>and</strong>) may enter the ring <strong>and</strong> compete at the show in any class once<br />
the initial trot-up has commenced.<br />
8. FALLS – A fall of any horse/pony or rider in any Working Hunter or ridden class will result in<br />
disqualification except in case where the awards have already been presented. Under these<br />
circumstances the rider must leave the arena un-mounted. Competitors may only continue to<br />
compete at the show following examination from either paramedic or first aid in attendance <strong>and</strong><br />
entirely at their own risk. Health Safety <strong>and</strong> Welfare considerations apply.<br />
9. A Rider whose hat comes off or strap comes undone whilst competing must on penalty of<br />
disqualification/elimination replace it or fasten it before continuing. The rider may dismount without<br />
penalty to recover the hat or have it passed up from the ground or they may stop without penalty to<br />
fasten the strap. JUDGES must have full regard for Health <strong>and</strong> Safety of the competitor <strong>and</strong><br />
the rest of the class whilst these actions take place.<br />
10. Judges - are asked to use their discretion <strong>and</strong> NOT accept to judge the same qualifying classes<br />
at consecutive shows in the same area, or more than 2 shows in the same area. For RIHS only two<br />
Qualifiers may be judged per season <strong>and</strong> should be at least 100 miles apart. One qualifying class<br />
may be accepted for 2010.<br />
11. JUDGES - SELECTED TO JUDGE THE RIHS CHAMPIONSHIP;<br />
HICKSTEAD SHOULD NOT JUDGE ANY QUALIFIERS IN THAT SEASON<br />
PRIOR TO THE FINAL.<br />
12. Judges - NO BSPA. Council member may judge a RIHS Qualifier or the Championship unless<br />
there are circumstances beyond the control of the BSPA.<br />
13. Judges - should not make any audible derogatory comment or remark concerning any exhibit<br />
brought before them or compare/contrast the animals conformation, performance, or ride with any<br />
other exhibitor or animal known to them<br />
