There’s a big difference between being the #1 Putter in Golf and the #1 Custom Fit Putter in
Golf. Just ask any of the players on any of the PGA, European, and LPGA Tours. All of them
are custom fit for their individual putting stances, including length, lie angle and swingweight.
PLOP spent the last two years with 3 top electronic and mechanical engineers re-designing the
original fitting device. With the improvements incorporated into the new “Red Tower” PLOP
“Pfit” device, every golfer can determine their precise measurements in a matter of seconds. “We
fit every golfer for length, lie angle and swingweight, just like we do for the Tour pros”, advised
Schmidt.
“We pre-make all the different length, lie angle and swingweight combinations so a golfer’s
correct size is available on the spot from the golf shop”, just like shoes, said Schmidt. “It’s
critical that the golfer purchase their correct size for their individual putting stance and they
don’t have to wait days or weeks to use it.”
When you bend the hosel to change the lie angle, the face loft will be modified. Bending it to a
flatter lie angle equates to adding face loft, while bending the hosel to a more upright lie
subtracts face loft. “I strongly advise against bending hosels on putters. There’s just too little
margin of error in putting. The proper and precise manner to make hosels on putters is to mill

different lie angles within millimeter tolerances to within two degrees of your desired or natural
hand position so the putter remains flat on the ground at set-up”, stated Schmidt.
“In addition to the proper fit, it’s also important that the putter have better physics designed to
improve performance”, continued Schmidt. During 2006, Jake began designing a revolutionary
golf club putter that “looks” like a traditional heel shafted heel toe weighted putter at setup, but
incorporates a hosel that is center shafted. Unlike all heel shafted putters where the hosel is
attached to the heel and milled out of a singular block of metal, the new PLOP RSVP 2 center
shafted offset hosel floats through a topline heel opening untouched and connects to a vertical
center post. An advantage of all heel shafted putters is there is an unobstructed view of the ball at
setup and through the entire putting stroke. In 2008, Schmidt perfected the method of
manufacturing the RSVP 2 CSH 1 and permanently inserting a separately milled offset hosel into
the separately milled body. Asked why he named it the RSVP, Schmidt stated, “it’s my response
to an answer”.
The new CSH putter technology was tested scientifically off the professional tours and by
players on the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, and LPGA Tour. The results showed two major
advantages over the hosel to heel connected putters widely used on by Tour players and
amateurs. The CSH technology significantly increases the amount of feel and feedback that a
player receives at the moment of impact with the golf ball, thereby increasing distance and
control performance on long putts and keeping the golf ball on line for any distance putts. It also
increases the sweet spot and provides virtually no twist in the golfer’s hands at the moment of
impact, helping the putt to stay on its intended line. This is a direct result of the CSH technology
reducing the variables of how much grip pressure the golfer needs to make to counteract the
torque imparted at impact with a golf ball for different distances of putts.
All traditional putters, like an Anser style made by other manufacturers, have the hosel directly
attached at the heel away from the center of impact on the face. The science of physics tells us
that the further away you move the hosel and/or shaft connection from the center of the face and
point of impact, the more the putter face will open at impact and the more the shaft and grip will
rotate or twist in the golfer’s hands, depending upon how hard the putt is hit. CSH technology
virtually eliminates these significant disadvantages and performs more like the PLOP Original
center shafted blade, the only putter made that can patently claim it possesses zero twist in a
golfer’s hands when the golf ball is struck at the center of the face. It’s the Physical Laws Of
Putting (PLOP). As Eli Callaway once told me, Schmidt reiterated, “you can’t argue with
physics”. The new PLOP CSH technology conforms to the USGA rules of golf.
Jake also redesigned the largest selling custom fit putter of the 1990’s, his PLOP “Original”
center shafted brass blade. No other putters are center shafted precisely through the center of
gravity from heel to toe and face to back. The metal surrounding the angle of the shaft entering
the center of gravity is evenly distributed. To achieve this 360 degrees perfect balance, the putter
can only be made in one shape. This balance is totally neutral, therefore the putter head does not
attempt to open or close anytime during the putting stoke and naturally tends to come back to
square impact.
Jake improved the PLOP Original by incorporating a full face aluminum insert for softer feel and
elimination of any backspin at impact. The PLOP “i” Original gets its name from the full face

aluminum insert and is made in three different putter head weights, correlated to different shaft
lengths, for better balance and a smoother stroke. The PLOP Original and the new PLOP “i”
Original provide maximum feel and zero twist at impact, the only putters that can make this
claim.
“We will also be introducing the new ICON 2 CSH 1 mallet at the 2011 show”, revealed
Schmidt. The PGA Tour pros asked for it and the putter market demanded it. Nearly 40% of all
golfers use some style of a mallet putter design. But none of them have virtually no twist at
impact until the new ICON 2 model incorporated PLOP’s patented CSH (Center Shafted Hosel)
technology. The body design is traditional, but the performance is innovative over all other
mallets…. and every one we make is custom fitted to a golfer’s individual putting stance, just
like we make’em for the PGA Tour players, stated Schmidt.
The ICON 2 is the first mallet incorporating a separately milled hosel and a separately milled
body. The ¾ offset hosel, which allows the putter to be face balanced, floats through a topline
hole at the heel and is permanently attached into a vertical putter post at the center of gravity.
Each body and hosel are entirely precision milled out of 303 stainless steel with a satin finish. As
standard with all PLOP putters, the ICON 2 body is made in three different putter head weights
correlated to shaft lengths to obtain the optimum swingweight for additional feel and a smoother
putting stroke.
