Is colourless to pale yellowish-brown, similar in odour to stem-batk oil but<br />

weaker, camphoraceous and lacking in fragrance. The major component is camphor upto<br />

60% , which crystallizes out on standing, plus 1,8-cinneole upto 16% and eugenol upto<br />

5%. Oil yield from root bark at 1-2.8% is higher than leaf and stem bark. Root- bark oil is<br />

produced only in Sri Lanka when an exhausted plantation is replanted and is usually<br />

added to other cinnamon oils.<br />

BARK AND POWDER<br />

WHOLE <strong>CINNAMON</strong><br />

The different commercial classes of whole cinnamon are usually packed as<br />

follows.<br />

1) cinnamon, type SriLanka in cylindrical bales of about 45 kg each<br />

2) cinnamon, type Seychelles and type Madagascar in bales of about 50 kg each<br />

3) cinnamon, type Seychelles quills and quillings are packed in wooden boxes of about<br />

100 to 150 kg each.<br />

<strong>CINNAMON</strong> POWDER<br />

Cinnamon powder shall be packed in clean, sound and dry containers made of a<br />

material which doesnot affect the product or its flavour. In addition , the containers shall<br />

protect the cinnamon powder against moisture ingress and loss of volatile matter.<br />
